Enter into a Premarital Agreement with full knowledge and financial disclosure. These agreements are not just for high net-worth individuals and should not be seen as a prediction of a future divorce. Paternity

Florida Department of Revenue Child Support

Paternity

Unmarried parties who have children together may need to participate in a paternity action to address issues like parental responsibilities; timesharing; and child support. There is a distinction between a biological father and a legal father. A court order may be needed to establish rights formally. Genetic testing may or may not be needed. Kaur Legal can guide you through the process.

Florida Department of Revenue Child Support

The Florida Department of Revenue (DOR), in relation to family matters, administers child support. Florida's Child Support Program's purpose is to help children get needed financial support where one parent may not be providing. The DOR only handles child support matters and not parental timesharing unless both parents are in full agreement on timesharing. Therefore, it is common for one parent to start a paternity action so that timesharing and/or child support can be addressed in the Circuit Court. Kaur Legal can help identify what is needed.

Family Settlement Agreements

Individuals have the freedom to contract (within bounds of the law/public policy). Some agreements in family matters may include the following:

  • Postnuptial Agreements (entered into after marriage) which can address matters like a prenuptial agreement. It must also be with full financial disclosure.
  • Marital Settlement Agreements: address the terms of your divorce, rights, and obligations. They often include matters related to finances.
  • Parenting Plans: address parental responsibilities; timesharing; and other child-related matters

Agreements can be temporary, partial, or full. Kaur Legal can assist with drafting, reviewing, and/or negotiating on your behalf.

Post-Judgment

Adult Name Change

Adult Name Change

After a final judgment (court order) is entered to close your family matter, issues and/or changes in circumstances may arise where a case is re-opened. This may include:

  • Contempt and/or Enforcement (someone has failed to comply with an agreement / court order)
  • Modification (alimony; child support; timesharing; relocation)

Kaur Legal can help you assess your situation and options available.

Adult Name Change

Adult Name Change

Adult Name Change

An adult may request a change of  their name (unconnected to a dissolution of marriage that is not final) if certain requirements are met and a Petition is filed in a Florida Court. If a dissolution of marriage action has not yet been finalized and a party is seeking to restore a former/prior last name before marriage, a request for this name change can be made in the dissolution of marriage action without filing a separate name change petition.
